Hi and Happy New Year from My Parrot Shop! Congratulations to Caroline and Richard (half of the core My Parrot team) on the arrival of little Rosemary on January 8th! Caroline and Jenny show that it is possible to run a business while looking after 4 kids under the age of 2, not that we'd recommend it!! This newsletter we're featuring new Training Toys & DVDs, new Bird Carriers, and a bunch of other new products.
Bird Carriers - New to My Parrot Shop
Some of our customers have been asking about bird carriers for a long time, so we've hunted around and found the very best quality products available. The Pak O Bird allows you to carry your parrot in a backpack, while the Perch & Go is more along the lines of a traditional carry cage, but with clear polycarbonate construction which allows your bird to get a 360-degree view of its surroundings. Very cool !
Introductory Offer: If you purchase a Pak O Bird or Perch & Go from us before the end of January 2010 you'll qualify for a 15% Rebate. Your rebate will be in the form of a voucher (valid until end 2010) which you may use for subsequent purchases. We will email you the voucher code upon receipt of payment for your order.
Pak O Bird
Pak-o-Birds are the most innovative light-weight carriers for travel with pet birds in comfort and safety. We have them in three standard sizes and two colours. For leisure walking, as a mobile home for short stay in friend's house or hotels, Pak-o-Birds make it all possible. They can be carried as a front pouch, backpack, shoulder bag or in a stroller for one or more birds. There's a wealth of information about Pak O Birds on our website, and we've been lucky enough to have beautiful Annie (a Blue Fronted Amazon) modelling for us - have a look!
The Perch and Go travel carrier is constructed with durable, lightweight, clear polycarbonate construction, allowing your parrot to get a 360-degree view of its surroundings to help alleviate the stress of moving. It gives you a clear view of your feathered friend, better enabling you to make judgement calls on how your bird is coping and to interact and comfort them more effectively.
Please Note: Currently we only have one Perch and Go in stock, however we're expecting new stock in about 6 weeks. You are able to pre-order if you wish - just add it to your order, and we'll deliver it when available. Give us a call if you'd like to check availability before your purchase.
We've been looking to expand our Training Toys section for some time, and are pleased to present an exciting new range of toys and DVDs :)
Roller Skates

Teach your bird to manipulate objects based on colors and numbers. This groovy parrot training toy includes vibrantly coloured acrylic discs which easily slide onto the transparent pegs of the base unit. With it you can train your bird to place the correct colour and number of discs onto each peg, based on your commands. There are several tricks your parrot can learn using this training toy - click the link to find out more!
All parrots love to grab things from your hand. It is a natural game to them. This parrot toy teaches yours to grab and drop acrylic coins, on command, into this toy's slotted acrylic bank. You will both learn the ritual of the training session, which, once mastered, can be used to teach your bird many tricks and tasks. Comes in two sizes to handle all types of parrots.
Can't teach an old bird new tricks? Yes you can! This unique series of three DVDs is an easy-to-follow guide to teach the basic training techniques, followed by Intermediate and Advanced courses. It works for all parrots — from budgies to macaws!
The Just Naturals people have added a Jumbo-sized Cockatoo Chew to their 'Chews' range, modelled by our Macaw 'Keiko' below. We also have a couple of funky new Toy Parts, and a new book and DVD.
Cockatoo Chew
Just Natural Bird Products are all about bringing nature into your parrot’s living room. These parrot chew toys consist of pine cones & various seed pods including (but not limited to!) Hakea, Banksia and the good ol’ native Australian Eucalypt Gum Nut. Natural wood slices with all the bark intact collected from various tree species that have been checked for chewing safety. Combine all of these fantastic wild ingredients with untreated sisal rope and strictly stainless steel hardware and you present your bird with a great natural chewing paradise.
Counting Hands buttons are available in different colors and numbers, having the number of holes in the centre corresponding to the number of fingers the hand is holding up.
Flower Forms are cute little disks that allow you to make 'flowers' by threading paper through the slits. The possibilities are endless - let your imagination run wild!
This one's for the birds, literally! Intended for an avian audience, this much-anticipated follow-up to the first film has been carefully edited for your bird's interests, visual ability, and attention span. Filmed in North and South America, and featuring Thick-billed Parrots, Red-fronted Macaws, Blue-throated Macaws, Amazon parrots, conures, and more.
There must be a lot of dummies out there because you can get one of their books on just about everything. Parrots for Dummies is packed full of useful tips, hints, reminders, and warnings about everything related to parrots and their care. Great book!
We've recently added about 20 more customer photos to our Gallery and some of the photos are quite spectacular! The new ones start near the top of page 8, and continue on to page 9.
We really wanted to start publishing Parrot Profiles by now, using all the wonderful information gleaned from the Parrot Toy Survey we conducted late last year, but unfortunately we're not quite there yet (babies seem to be getting in the way!).
We'll endeavour to get the first profile published before our next newsletter, so keep an eye on the website. Caroline reckons the first profile will be on Rainbow Lorikeets.
PS: We think we've missed sending out a few vouchers to people who responded to the survey - if you're one of these people, we apologise - please send us an email and we'll sort it out.
