Bird of Man

Introducing... “In the city of a thousand smiles”
The debut CD from Melbourne soloist, Bird of Man.

After two years in the making Melbourne artist Bird of Man delivers his debut album “In the city of a thousand smiles”. Produced by acclaimed engineer and producer,Greg O'shea (The Badloves/Brilliant Fanzine) this record is sure to find a place in the hearts and souls of many.

Completely original works, Bird of Man (Tristen Bird) has composed all of the music on the record, playing the guitars, and is also the vocalist. He describes his musical style as being contemporary pop/rock, but adds that it is definitely inspired by the music he heard his folk-inspired musician father playing at home and in concerts. Other artists who have taken part in the recording sessions include Darren Danielson (Chocolate Starfish/Pseudo Echo) and Lachlan Doley (Billy Thorpe/Jimmy Barnes/Powderfinger).

The songs are honest and accessible for all as a rich tapestry of strings and delicate guitar tones surround tales of passing life through the artist’s eyes.

“The Beatles meet Oasis in a space shared by songstress Dido and Australia’s own Alex Lloyd”,
Denny Lane productions 2007.

“There was an air of nostalgia in the studio,as the songs influenced by the masters of the craft, unveiled
themselves across and into the tape reel”, Bird of Man .

An album for the birds...

Half of the proceeds from each record sold go directly to Bird's Australia's Orange-bellied Parrot recovery programme. This Australian species, with a total population of around 140 individuals,is one of the World's rarest birds.

Birds Australia is a national, non-government, not-for-profit organisation that works tirelessly towards conserving wild native birds and their habitats. Among Australia's oldest conservation organisations, Birds Australia effectively works with a range of stakeholders including all levels of government, other conservation organisations, landholders and the general public. It has an extensive bird research and conservation project portfolio that focusses on a range of critically important issues.

One project that has seen hosted by Birds Australia for over two decades is the Orange-bellied Parrot project. Current research is examining the habitat use of the parrot throughout coastal Victoria and South Australia but there is also a strong community awareness raising and education component to the project. It is very important for this to continue and with your support through the purchase of this record, an educational DVD will be produced with a focus on how to recognise the birds habitat and the key plant species required for its survival. Your contribution will be greatly appreciated and will ensure the protection of this special and unique bird. To ensure the smallest environmental footprint, packaging of the record is simple yet clever, using 100% recycled paper and minimal plastic.
